Jose Rico Sanariz, DNAP, MSN, APRN
Jose Rico S. Sanariz, a native of Cavite, Philippines, earned his Doctor of Nurse Anesthesiology Practice with a concentration in Educational Administration from Texas Wesleyan University in 2021. He has been employed as the Chief Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at the Baltimore VA Medical Center since 2021. A critical care nurse and certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) with twenty-eight years of solid clinical experience. He acquired his CSICU nursing experience from the Philippines, England, and the United States. He was the nurse unit manager at St. Luke’s Medical Center’s intensive care unit. He became the first Filipino Charge Nurse at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, England.
Dr. Sanariz’s critical care nursing experiences were honed at the CSICU of the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins Hospital. The University of Maryland granted him a Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia in 2012. During his eight-year tenure at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center (JHBMC), he was the Lead Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). Following this, he assumed the position of Chief CRNA at the VA Baltimore. Dr. Sanariz has been an adjunct faculty member in the University of Maryland’s nurse anesthesiology program since 2020.
Dr. Sanariz was awarded the Coin of Excellence Award by the Veterans Integrated Services Network (VISN) 5 for two consecutive years (2023 and 2024). Furthermore, he received the prestigious JHBMC CRNA of the Year 2020 Award. He recently received the 2024 Excellence in Advanced Practice Nursing from the Philippine Nurses Association of America Maryland Chapter.
